Mercedes Helnwein – Dark Surreal Art

I am super intrigued by the aesthetic of the Austrian artist Mercedes Helnwein. Her talents move around different disciplines as writing, paintings, photography and film making. In this post I will focus on her fab portraits, where each piece seems to suggest us a story.

I enjoy the fact that each character on her paintings seems to hide a mysterious and somewhat dark secret and of course, the vintage look makes the whole creative project even better.

You can also find her on Instagram.

Inspired – Julie Liger Belair

Enjoy the enchanted works by the Canadian artist Julie Liger Belair. I love the way she also combines paper cuts with sculptural compositions made with polymer clay.

These are few words about how she describes her art practice: Fairy tales, legends, dreams and the surreal worlds they evoke have always been a part of the human experience; a way to make sense of our surroundings and explain our fears. As a child these captured my imagination, weaving themselves into the fabric of my personality. Because of this I am today a collector at heart, constantly collecting fragments of ideas and objects, each with their own little stories to tell. Combining them in different ways in my work, they form new narratives and meanings.

You can find her pieces available on Saatchi Art.
