Check it out some other works from the latest series that I am currently working on – is called “Floating Dreamers” and it’s focused on my research on patterns and abstractions.

Floating Dreamers is a series about my constant research on pattern and colour combinations. The title of this body of works is also connected to my fascination for the past, and the necessity to keep it “suspended” in time and space.

Inspired – Marie Cameron

The American painter and mixed media artist Marie Cameron started this beautiful series, called #morerainbows!, during the pandemic.

Here’s what she describes this creative project:

My #morerainbows! series, which started during the pandemic, was a daily search for connection, hope, wonder and joy in which I embroidered silk rainbows onto found, vintage photographs. I felt the need for all of us to be able to see the rainbows in ourselves, in each other and in our world.

Inspired – Photodido

Photodido is a smart collaboration between the artists Sandra and Geda. Sandra studied in Lithuanian Accademy of Cinema and Theater and graduated from Animated Visual Arts. Geda is a professional photographer and graduate of Vilnius Art Academy.

It’s not a surprise that from these 2 brilliant minds came out this beautiful creative project. Their artworks are a mix and match of collage, installation and sculpture. It looks like that each piece came out from a tiny nostalgic time capsule that recalls a puppet theatre.

Derrick Ofosu Boateng – Afro Pop Portraits

There is so much joy into each portrait shot by the Ghanian photographer Derrick Ofosu Boateng, and everything he makes spreads a powerful light.

These are some insights about his art practice:

22-year-old Ghanaian rising-star, Derrick Boateng, is inspired by the richness of the African lifestyle. Radiating positivity and energy, Derrick’s ultra bright afro pop portraits offer a new perspective on Africa. The “iPhone artist” first started on his father’s iphone camera.

Through his art, he is inspired to represent the beauty and visual poetry of everyday African culture, lifestyles and behaviours thereby “changing the story that is told of Africa”. Though rooted in the local traditions of Ghana, he believes that the intimate images he captures are representation of life anywhere on the continent.

“Photography has always made me happy, since I was a child, and now it means something important to me because it is the way I have to defend the idea that Africa is not just something negative.”

Inspired – Katie Jean Gilmour

I am super impressed by the magnetic power of the collages by the American artist Katie Jean Gilmour. I found her on Instagram through her official account, but she also opened one just for her paper experiments.

It looks like these are just a way for her to “maintain focus”, with the purpose to switch them in the future into paintings. I really enjoy the freshness of these works, especially because they suggest me a dark secret of some sort.

I hope to see more of her collage works, they are so inspiring!

Albin Sjödin – Sweet Darkness

It looks like each portrait taken from the Swedish photographer and filmmaker Albin Sjödin is surrounded by a crepuscular light.

However it doesn’t suggest me any sense of creepiness of some sort, but it’s more a sweet, silent and soft sensation.

His solitary subjects emerge from darkness, and the soft lights embrace them in a poetic way. You can also check his videos on Vimeo.

Inspired – K Young

I truly enjoy the surrealist hand cut paper collages by the London based artist K Young. These interventions are incredibly detailed and well crafted, and they recall me the noir cinema in some way.

K Young says: “reimagining existing objects and turning them into something new has been a preoccupation of mine for as long as I can remember, and it is this, together with a long-held passion for photography, which has led me to my working process today. I make hand-cut paper collages from found photographic material. Using editing, reframing, splicing, layering and juxtaposition, I reassemble images until a different narrative emerges. I then make these collages into photographs. By returning the image to some semblance of its original state, I am acknowledging its legacy. To me, the circle is complete”.

Ziqian Liu – Surreal Self Portraits

Elegant, minimalist, surreal – these are the beautiful images by the Chinese independent photographer Ziqian Liu.

All the pics are still life self portraits, where you can see an intricate and balanced interaction between her body and objects of all sorts.

This is how describes her art research: All of her work is a self-portrait. In her work, she combines her body, plants, and mirror images, constantly exploring the balanced state of peaceful coexistence between humans and nature. In terms of visual presentation, she is keen to create quiet images with a sense of rigor and order.

Here’s another stack of works done a few months ago from the series “Mongolfiere” (Hot-air Balloons).

Mongolfiere (Hot-Air Balloons) is a sketchbook filled with altered vintage portraits ready to fly. I wanted to imagine the extension of each photo as an imaginary abstract world. Each subject represents a floaty and colourful balloon that walks freely into time and space.
